I’m interested in balance.
On this bit of land we have inserted ourselves into an existing complex system. It is older, more resilient, and longer lasting than we.
One of our objectives, of course, is to produce human food.
Another objective is maintaining an openness to hearing the lessons and speech of the land and it’s inhabitants. What is our impact here? Is it harmful? Helpful? Benign? What are the effects of the disturbance of our presence and our practices?
The land answers my questions if I listen. We’ve been here for a few seasons now and I’m beginning to see some of our effects. There is a lot to learn.
I have an obligation to feed my species.
I have an equal obligation to respect the complex web of life in my environment.
